Vascular Associates of Northern Virginia was founded in 1999 to serve the community in Reston, Virginia and the areas around it with the healthcare of the vascular system.  Our board certified vascular specialists and our clinical staff members, strive to provide outstanding and innovative vascular care.  We hold ourselves to the highest standards through continued medical education and maintaining appropriate certifications and accreditations.  We also work closely with referring physicians and hospitals to deliver the best and most appropriate patient care.

Our Physicians:

Dr. Robert Podolsky has practiced Vascular Surgery in Northern Virginia since 1996 after completing his medical degree at Temple University School of Medicine.  He did a residency in General Surgery and was Board Certified in Vascular Surgery after completing a fellowship at University of Massachusetts.  Dr. Podolsky is also a Registered Vascular Technologist (R.V.T.) and a Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation (R.P.V.I.).  He has received many honors, including being selected for Washingtonian and Northern Virginia magazine’s Top Doctors Award for multiple years.

Dr. Avisesh Sahgal  has practiced Vascular Surgery in Northern Virginia since 2003 after completing his medical degree at Northern Ohio Universities College of Medicine.  He did a residency in General Surgery at Montefiore Medical Center in New York and a Vascular Surgery fellowship at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Ohio in 2003.  Dr. Sahgal is also a Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation (R.P.V.I.).  Dr. Sahgal has earned many honors and awards, including being selected for Washingtonian and Northern Virginia magazine’s Top Doctors Award for multiple years.

Our Physician Assistant:

Abigail Nelson, PA-C joined our practice in September of 2019 after receiving her Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from Kings College in Wilkes-Barre, PA. She was certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and received her license to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia in September of 2019. Her training and expertise make her a welcome addition to our practice.
