Stroke can be prevented by controlling blood pressure, reducing cholesterol, and quitting smoking. This is most successful when done with a combination of lifestyle changes and medication.
Other treatment may include use of blood thinners such as aspirin to interfere with the blood’s ability to clot and can play an important role in preventing stroke.
The risk of stroke can also be reduced by removing the blockage from the arteries leading to the brain. This is known as carotid endarterectomy.
